About the Role

The Hadoop Developer / Admin will be responsible for managing and administering Hadoop clusters, deploying and configuring nodes, and monitoring cluster performance. Key tasks include cluster performance tuning, capacity planning, and ensuring security and connectivity. The role also involves proactive and reactive monitoring, backup, and maintenance of the HDFS file system. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of Hadoop administration experience, along with strong skills in Linux system administration, Shell scripting, and YARN. Familiarity with Cloudera Distribution, Hive, MapReduce, and cloud infrastructure is a plus. This is a full-time, long-term position based in McLean, VA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer Hadoop clusters and all related resources within the Hadoop ecosystem.

  • Deploy and configure Hadoop clusters, add/remove nodes, track jobs, monitor critical cluster components, and configure name-node high availability.

  • Perform performance tuning and optimizations for Hadoop clusters.

  • Conduct proactive and reactive monitoring of cluster health and performance.

  • Plan and scale the Hadoop cluster as required to meet operational demands.

  • Monitor Hadoop cluster connectivity, security, and perform necessary backup, restore, and maintenance for the HDFS file system.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on Apache Hadoop administrative experience.

  • 3+ years of experience with Linux, AIX, or UNIX-based system administration.

  • Strong knowledge of Shell Scripting, YARN, and other Hadoop ecosystem tools.

  • Basic administration knowledge of Cloudera Distribution.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Strong team player with a positive attitude and effective collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with Cloudera Distribution.

  • Familiarity with Hive and MapReduce modules.

  • Knowledge of Azure cloud infrastructure.

  • Experience with automation tools like CHEF.

  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL database systems.

  • Experience with Data Lakes and Teradata data warehousing systems.
